Art for Self-Care with Start from the Heart
Nancy Bindig, founder of Start From the Heart: Art for Self-Care introduces you to methods of self-expression that let you shift from thinking about cancer to feeling and communicating who you are - with and without cancer - in nonverbal ways. She holds monthly classes that range from doodling your emotions to weaving as a meditation and working with art paper to create new art in the form of collages or cards. No experience with art or drawing is needed for any of her classes.
ONLINE classes require pre-registration (usually 1 week in advance) to ensure we have time to get you the art supplies. Look for our Art for Self-Care classes on our Calendar page.
About your facilitator:
Nancy Binding of Merritt Island is both a fiber artist and art instructor. She started her self-taught basketry journey years ago with traditional techniques, materials and forms, then moved on to incorporate palm inflorescence and other natural materials. She holds a BS in Art Education and has taught a variety of adults and children in myriad settings. Believing that “all experience becomes woven intricately into our lives”, Nancy combines her love of art, nature, basketry and teaching in her own life. Teaching gives others the opportunity to make art and find a new creative voice or re-claim a buried passion. She encourages students to experience art as a vehicle for fun, relaxation, personal expression, and self-care!

Write for Your Life!
Everyone has the capacity to write creatively and joyfully. In this 4-week series there will be no writing skills, no evaluation, no criticism. Participants will be encouraged to simply write in various forms (memoir, journal, short pieces) and share or not, as they wish. Increased comfort with writing in any form of self-expression has been demonstrated to facilitate healing, so we will be experimenting with many ways to get to the goal of less judgment, more writing! The first session will be introductory - an explanation of why people lose the joy of journaling along the way and the time will be used to create a safe, comfortable space. Following sessions will include short writing exercises, meditation, games and fun. All supplies will be provided. This FREE series is available to anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis, regardless of when or what type.
Look for next series beginning in the Fall
A note from your facilitator:
I would like to invite you to join me on an adventure. It does not require leaving home, or even leaving your chair. Most of us are staying close to home these days anyway, so why not play inside our heads? A great playground! Your head is full of ideas, memories, stories and your stored wisdom and humor. This is NOT a writing class! There is no judgement, or teaching, even. Just a path to journalling and writing more; a pathway to your heart. My writing workshop which begins on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 will help you to access the riches inside of you. I can't wait to meet you and hope you will join me!
